This is Black Sabbath like you’ve never seen them—performing A Hard Road live inside an empty Hammersmith Odeon during soundcheck in 1978.

The band was in transition mode—touring their final album with Ozzy (Never Say Die) while tension and exhaustion were setting in. But here, for one rare moment, they lock in and deliver a haunting, stripped-down version of A Hard Road. No crowd. No pyro. Just raw chemistry between four legends.

🎤 Ozzy’s vocals are sharp and focused—this is one of the few times you’ll hear him this isolated during the Sabbath years.
🎸 Tony Iommi joins in on backing vocals—a total rarity.
🥁 Bill Ward is locked in with that jazz-rock swing.
🎹 The keys cut through with a dark, melodic warmth that sets the tone for the band’s final ‘70s chapter.

This was filmed shortly before the band hit the same stage packed with fans on the Never Say Die! UK Tour, just months before Ozzy left the band for good. It captures the end of an era—and the beginning of Ozzy’s solo legend.
