This is a fan-made and unofficial remix of the classic new wave song by David Bowie. Following the demise of punk rock, a multitude of artists emerged in the late 1970s who had been influenced by the glam rock and the punk revolution. One of the huge influences of many of these aspiring artists/musicians was undoubtedly David Bowie – what a decade the 1970s were for The Thin White Duke! You just have to listen to the incredible back catalogue that he created during this period to realise that he was on fire – classic album after classic album. And, we were all lucky to be alive to experience David Bowie’s majesty in real time.
David Bowie returned in 1980 to show the young aspiring new wavers/new romantics etc that he was not finished yet and that he was still a creative force to be reckoned with.
“Ashes To Ashes” got to number 1 in the UK charts in August 1980. I remember vividly the video for the song being played on TV and what a video it was too with so many astonishing and original images. Here is a link to the video which many of you will know well.
Some will think it is sacrilege that I have done this song. Maybe some listeners will experience some discomfort because the original is so hard wired in people’s psyche, but remember the raison d’être for this channel is to celebrate the great songs of the past and to learn how these great songs were put together. Ultimately, nothing has been destroyed and the original is still there in all it’s majestic quality.
David Bowie, once again, thanks for the music. RIP Thin White Duke. You are much missed…where did you go?
